Epilepsy Durham Region

Epilepsy Durham Region promotes independence and quality of life for individuals living with epilepsy in the Durham Region. We deliver education, support and social programs for people with epilepsy from youth to seniors, and for their family caregivers. Our goal is to create a barrier free community in which epilepsy is widely understood, and where persons affected by epilepsy and seizure disorders are empowered to live a life of support, dignity, and self-worth.


Due to Covid's negative impact on our traditional in-person service delivery, we are seeking team members who can contribute to providing services virtually to our clients and the community. Skills sets in technology are important to the success of this transition, as is the ability to work independently in a remote workforce.


Tasks and Responsibilities

Web Developer will be responsible for developing a website for that is consistent with the Ontario Epilepsy brand. They will collaborate with other staff to re-imagine the website to support the daily operations and overall goals of the organization. Using sound design principles focused on the user experience will be critical to the success of the position.


The Web Developer is responsible for taking an active leadership role in the developing a website that supports the organization in providing services in online virtual formats. The Web Developer should have a solid knowledge and experience in web related programming applications, including but not limited to, Joomla/Wordpress at a minimum. In addition to static content, the Web Developer is responsible for developing tools for two-way interaction by understanding the organizations workflow, and by integrating with other technologies where feasible. Appointment booking, downloadable resources, event registrations, donation forms, e-commerce, education videos and other interactive elements will be expected. Knowledge of servers/hosting, site migration and related security is required. Knowledge of python, ruby or other applications not required but an asset.


Additional skills that would make a preferred candidate for this position include: Knowledge of email marketing design and delivery not required but an asset. Familiarity to proficiency of additional multimedia skills, such as video editing, photo editing, digital photography or e-learning not required but an asset. A candidate with these additional skills will also be responsible for other multimedia projects as needed.


The Web Developer may work remotely, collaborating with multiple staff members, using collaboration tools such as Office 365, Teams, Planner and file sharing. The Web Developer should be familiar with related technologies including video conferencing, webinars, and others.

Digital Skills - Digital technology refers to the skills needed to understand and use digital systems, tools and applications, and to process digital information. At work, people use digital technology skills to input, access, analyze, organize, create and communicate information and ideas using computers, software, point-of-sale equipment, email, podcasts, web applications, smart phones and other digital devices.


Leadership - Leadership refers to a number of skills, including communication, relationship building, and the ability to delegate and traits such as honesty. At work, leadership skills are required when working in a team, demonstrating initiative, and taking responsibility for the completion of tasks that require multiple employees.
